Azad Hind

When these did not arrive, Mohan Singh resigned after ordering his army to disband; he expected to be sentenced to death. After Bose established Azad Hind, he tried to ascertain his political independence from the regime that supported him. Indeed, 

he had led protests against the Japanese growth into China, and supported Chiang Kai-shek through the Nineteen Thirties. The Azad Hind Fauj was formed in Southeast Asia with the navy, political and financial assist of Imperial Japan in Singapore.

It was from these prisoners of war that the Japnese determined to create an auxiliary military which would battle against the British. Azad Hind was recognised by as many as eleven countries together with Japan, Nanking China, Thailand, Burma, Italy, Germany and the Philippines.

 The government was given limited administrative jurisdiction over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, captured by the Imperial Japanese Navy in the war. The government renamed the Islands "Shaheed" and "Swaraj", meaning "martyr" and "self-rule" respectively. Major General Arcot Doraiswamy Loganadan was made the Governor of the Islands.
